We Are Excited!!

Why? Because we have some new team members, great programs, wonderful teachers, and amazing kids! We welcome all families with children to familiarize themselves with that we have to offer, and we encourage those whose families are "all grown up" to look for ways you want to lend a helping hand this year. There are truly many ways to learn about our faith and through the eyes of children is a fantastic was to do it. Please let us know if you have an idea or want to participate.

Watch for These Events

Vacation Bible School:
Every year in mid-June, we have VBS, which is open to all children in the community entering grades K though 6. We have focused on such themes as "Fruit of the Spirit", being on "God's Team", a Prayer Safari, and God's Love (1 Corinthians 13). The morning starts at 9:00 a.m. with a whole group gathering and skit. Then, by age groups, it is off to lesson time, music, recreation, arts and crafts, and wonderful snacks. We close with an intergenerational fellowship time at noon. We are blessed to have as many youth and adult volunteers as we have children!

Sunday Mornings @ First Church

Nursery Care

For infants and toddlers up to age 3 years
During the 10:00 a.m. hour in room 105

Since "big church" is often difficult for wiggly youngsters to sit through, we provide nursery care for our little ones. Staffed by church volunteers, nursery care is appropriate for those who are not yet potty-trained.

Preschool Sunday School

For children 3 years - Kindergarten age
Held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in room 107

The "Movers and Shakers" have an exciting year planned. We use age-appropriate curriculum from Gospel Light to help the children learn about Creation, Noah and the Ark, obeying God, Jesus' life and other stories from the Bible. Our teachers are excited to help you guide your children on their own personal journey to know Jesus! Each Sunday is filled with fun activities and exciting music to reinforce the Bible verse which is the focus of each lesson.

Awesome Bible Adventures (ABA)

For children attending grades 1 - 6
Held during the worship service at 10:00 a.m.

ABA is taught using the workshop rotation method, a teaching style based on the learning center model used in public schools. With this approach, children are taught major Bible stories and concepts in kid-friendly multimedia workshops: art, drama, music, audiovisual, computer, storytelling, etc. The same Bible story (or concept) is taught for 3-6 weeks, with the children rotating from workshop to workshop. Each group spends one week in each workshop, and the teacher teaches one or two workshops during that time period. Each teacher teaches in his or her area if interest. This year we will be using the Godly Play approach to introducing new material.

Other Opportunities for Children and Families:

The Computer Lab is well equipped with nine computers that are loaded with state-of-the-art Christian software that is just waiting to be explored by all ages of our congregation. There is something there for everyone. Sunday morning classes, CAAMP, and Pre-Kindergarten Readiness children currently use the Lab. We hope to expand its use this year by bringing in many other age groups. The computer in our Church Library contains many of the wonderful programs that the Lab computers have. Most of them are useful for adults to use for their own research and enrichment. The computer is available to use anytime that the church is open.

We appreciate all of the donations of older computers and printers, and we continue to give scholarships (free computers) to those who request it. We will continue to accept your donations of working computers, monitors, printers, and related equipment. Operational software (Windows '98, 2000, etc.) is greatly needed for the computers we give in the scholarships program.

The Computer Committee needs people to help teach adults and children, folks to help with simple computer problems during a class, people to serve on the committee itself, and technical people to help fix up the older computers before they are donated. Consider aiding in some way in this important ministry. The rewards are great!

Families with Young Children

This group gives parents with young children the opportunity to get together informally for fun and fellowship. Sometimes the plans include the children; sometimes not. New for this year is monthly Family Movie Nights. These will typically take place the fourth Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in our Youth Room, equipped with a video projection and audio system. During the holiday season, we will change the date to accommodate Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the past, we have done things like game nights (Monopoly, anyone?), picnics, and Putt-Putt. We are planning some exciting new events for the next year! Watch the Worship bulletins and PresbyNews for upcoming events.

Library Committee

The CNCYF Ministry Team oversees the church library. The library has children's books and videos, Christian music (CDs and tapes), adult Bible study materials, and many other resources. Again, we have a computer that is loaded with the best Christian software that is available today!

Christian Parenting Classes

From time to time, we offer classes such as Growing Kids God's Way, Children and Spirituality, and How to Talk So Kids Will Listen. Other tops are also available. If you are interested in a small study group with other Christian parents, or have a topic you would like to pursue, please feel free to contact Michelle McDonald at (513) 422-6365.

Christian Nurture of Children, Youth and Families Ministry Team

This ministry team assists in planning all the many choices that you see listed here. We are always open to new members of even those who may want to be involved in just one particular activity. We usually meet once a month. Join us! We have room for YOU! Contact Michelle McDonald, Director of Christian Education, at (513) 422-6365.
